Kylian Mbappe Handed Ultimatum

Kylian Mbappe’s future is looking murky as he remains mum on either staying with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) or exiting the Parisians during the transfer window.

The 24-year-old French forward’s contract expires in June next year, and his incredible skills make him an asset no matter where he goes. However, he has dragged his feet on where he intends going next, after it came out that he had sent a letter last month to PSG’s management stating that he would not be renewing his contract.

This move “shocked” club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who asserted that Mbappe must stay, after unveiling Luis Enrique as the new club coach.

“We want him to stay, but he can’t leave for free,” Al-Khelaifi told a local publication.

He emphasised his point further: “The position is very clear. If Kylian wants to stay, he must sign a new contract … If he doesn’t want to … the door is open. No one is bigger than the club, no player, not even me.”

The Ligue 1 champs must sell their star player or risk losing him for free. PSG rejected a €200-million offer from Real Madrid in 2021, but then Mbappe chose to ink a new contract at the last moment. The transfer window closes on 31 July.
